Minor in Humanities

HUMANITIES MINOR: ADVANCED INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES IN THE HUMANITIES

The humanities are those branches of knowledge that are concerned with human thought and culture, such as philosophy, literature, art and art history, and also some of the social sciences, such as history, as well as aspects of anthropology and sociology.

The goal in the Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities is to train undergraduates in interdisciplinary methods, topics, and theories within the humanities, and to expose students to contemporary developments and debates in disciplines other than their own.

The minor is designed to complement existing majors.

Requirements
(7 credits):

  • Up to four humanities seminars (HUM 395-0) for one credit each;

  • Three courses chosen from HUM Topics in the Humanities 301-0 and/or New Perspectives in the Humanities 302-0 (1 credit each);

  • The balance of credits should be made up of 300-level humanities courses approved by the Institute, which can include 390-0 Humanities Internship and/or 399-0 Independent Studies.
Five units should not be double-counted in the major. Students pursuing a minor in advanced interdisciplinary studies in the humanities must consult with the Associate Director of the Institute to establish their program.
